At Every Child Bay Preschool, food and meal time are important activities for community building and sensory exploration. Meals are eaten family style at communal tables, often outside as weather permits.
Children routinely engage in food preparation with our school cook, who prepares meals on site 5 days/week.
Our meal program provides 2 snacks (AM and PM) and lunch daily. The food program is included in tuition.
AM Snack | Sliced mango Sliced apple Raisins Cereal with milk | French toast with jam Banana Strawberries |
Lunch | Artichoke/vegetable soup Toast with sun dried tomato spread Fresh spinach salad with tomato | Sliced avocado Steamed bok choy Beef meatballs Pasta with fresh tomato sauce |
PM Snack | Blueberry and raspberry fruit salad Crackers with cream cheese | Bagel with cheese Sliced mango Tangerines |
We believe in the statement “we are what we eat” therefore we avoid sugar and highly processed foods. Our cook prepares most of our meals from organic, fresh food (vegetables, legumes, cereals, meat, fish, fruits). The cook follows the guidelines of the Department of Agriculture (MyPlate and Dietary Guidelines for Americans).
Family Style Meals
Children and teachers sit together at a table for a meal or snack. Teachers and peers model healthy eating habits for one another. We find that family style meals support the emergence of self-confidence, expanding social skills, and the learning table manners. Family style serving creates opportunities to:
- Try new foods and politely decline foods children have tasted and don’t enjoy yet
- Understanding appropriate use of utensils
- Participate in setting up and cleaning the table after the meal
